14th December, 2023. As the low cloud cleared across the top of Beachy Head, on a chilly Thursday morning Caroline Ansell, MP for Eastbourne and Willingdon, visited Lotus Labels, a specialist printer and manufacturer to see the work of the business and to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing businesses in the town.
Lotus Labels is a Label and Carton printing and design company in Eastbourne, UK. The company offers various printing and design services including Labels and Folded carton packaging. The company is also committed to sustainability and uses eco-friendly printing methods and recycled materials whenever possible.
During her visit, Mrs Ansell met with co-owner of Lotus Labels, Andreas Schillinger to discuss the business’s achievements, challenges and opportunities.
Whilst visiting she also toured the company’s facilities. She learned about the array of specialist equipment used in the production process including flexo and digital printing presses, finishing and cutting machines and the production machines for applying foils and embellishments to labels and cartons.
Mrs Ansell noted the factory’s chocolately aroma and smiled to see that labels destined for schools were being infused with the scent of many children’s favourite treats. Mrs Ansell, a teacher by profession said, “It’s been a while since I’ve given these out!”
“One of the things I enjoy most about my role is seeing behind the scenes. I thought I had seen just about everything in Eastbourne, but then I come to a business like this. I was impressed with the scale of the operations, and it was fascinating to see the process. I will never look at a label again the same way. It’s a mini work of art” she said.
Mrs Ansell also met with several Lotus Labels employees, who demonstrated some of their work processes and how they fit into the jigsaw that is the production team.
Having spoken about the current challenges facing the Label printing industry and the wider economy Mrs Ansell took away some suggestions and feedback from Lotus Labels’ employees and owners to pass on to the Chancellor.
Mrs Ansell concluded her visit by thanking the staff at Lotus Labels for their enlightening tour.
